Nobody’s Covering Yonkers. Help Us Change That.

Yonkers is a city of nearly 210,000 people, and for years almost no one has been covering it. The newsroom that once told this city’s story shrank, then vanished—taking with it the calendar of events, the high school scores, the obituaries, the school board fights, the basic record of civic life.

We’re building it back. The Yonkers Ledger is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit creating a civic operating system for Yonkers: the everyday service journalism this city lost, plus the in-depth reporting it has rarely had. The basics—schools, neighborhoods, sports, and the people who make this city what it is—and the harder work of digging into city government, the budget, housing, development, and the politics behind it all.

We take no advertising and no political ads, and accept no payment for coverage. That independence is only possible because readers pay for it.

A gift of any size keeps a reporter at a council meeting and this city’s story on the record. If you believe Yonkers deserves a newsroom of its own, donate today.

Your gift is tax deductible: the Yonkers Ledger is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit news organization. We rely on volunteer staff to produce local news that is important to our community. Your contribution will help us fund the day-to-day operations of our newsroom.
