Grant Awarded to Yonkers to Improve Air Quality

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) allocated roughly $900k to various environmental initiatives across the state. The “SW Yonkers Air Quality (AQ) Education Campaign and Planning Project” was the only grant awarded in Westchester out of the eight awarded state-wide.

Groundwork Hudson Valley, the administrators of this project, will receive $100,000 to fund air quality monitoring in an effort to reduce pollutants and improve the health and safety of Yonkers residents.

DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos, while awarding the grants, said, “DEC will continue to address climate change under our nation-leading Climate Act by providing support and resources for community-led initiatives to develop solutions, working hand-in-hand with our partners in communities to reduce pollution and improve quality of life for New Yorkers.”
