Fire broke out in a vacant three-story house at 53 Locust Hill Ave. at 2 a.m. Saturday. Numerous fire and emergency units responded, bringing the fire under control by 4 a.m., the Yonkers Fire Department said. There were no serious injuries.
A nearby fire company responded quickly to a 911 call and found fire coming from a second-floor window, said Ray Mahoskey, deputy chief of operations for the Yonkers Fire Department. As the fire spread to the third floor, additional fire companies arrived on the scene.
Before the flames were extinguished, a turret above the roof of the house crashed down into the structure. “It came straight down to the second floor,” Mahoskey said. With so many companies involved, fire units in New Rochelle were put on alert as backup, Mahoskey said.
Mahoskey said investigators have not determined a cause.
