The County Board of Elections has declared Wilson A. Terrero the winner in the Democratic primary for the Dist. 17 seat in the county legislature, narrowly edging his opponent Leslye Oquedno-Thomas by 946 votes to 942. The tally has remained close since the June 23 primary, requiring the full manual recount that was conducted today.
The process took place under the scrutiny of representative from both candidates, along with non-partisan observers. According to Westchester Democratic Election Commissioner Tajian Nelson, the count proceeded smoothly, with only one vote coming under closer scrutiny due to the ambiguity of voter intent. “I’m grateful for the transparent process,” Nelson said.
The vote will be officially certified by Friday, according to Nelson.
