Although shelves at a Stew Leonard’s in Yonkers, New York, are largely stocked, many employees are absent due to illness, much as like elsewhere in the country.
Christian Cruz, vice president of the store, claims it only entails changing a few things.
“We have around five, six, or seven distinct flavors of pizza, so if we don’t need to create pineapple pizza because there is a slight scarcity, we don’t,” he quipped.
Some consumers in Bergen County reported that they lately needed to visit many different locations in order to find everything they needed, and they were also paying more as a result of increasing costs.
According to analysts, there seems to be a few key causes for why your neighborhood store’s shelves might be empty. Due to the recent spike of the Omicron Covid variant, fewer people are available to drive trucks and stock shelves since workers are absent due to illness. Consumers are choosing to cook more food at home as a result of the recent wave of infections, which has also reduced the amount of dining out. Furthermore, delivery delays are a result of the weather disruptions during this harsh winter.
Although there is enough food in the supply chain itself, according to the National Grocers Association, supply and labour issues are causing periodic disruptions for customers. To help prevent labor interruptions, the National Grocers Association is demanding that screening supplies be prioritized for store employees by both the federal and state governments.
Only time will tell if these disruptions are a convergence of temporary problems, or are here to stay.
