NeighborhoodScout Releases Ranking of the Most Dangerous Neighborhoods in Yonkers

According to statistics provided by NeighborhoodScout, a popular website focusing on neighborhood livability and crime rates, the following are the most dangerous neighborhoods in Yonkers.

Overall, Yonkers reports a crime rate of 10.45 incidents per 1,000 residents. This falls below the New York state average of 16.65. Specifically regarding violent crimes, the city has a rate of 2.53 incidents per 1,000 residents. Also lower than average of 3.13 for the state. When it comes to property crime, the city’s rate stands at 7.92. Yonkers is again lower than the state average of 13.52.

Based on the information from NeighborhoodScout’s data, the following five neighborhoods in Yonkers ranked by their crime rates.

5. Getty Square

Getty Square stands as an historic neighborhood in the heart of downtown Yonkers. Home to approximately 16,000 people with a median household income of $32,000, Getty Square acts as the civic center and central business district of Yonkers. It is home to an array of government buildings, offices, shops, and restaurants.

Despite its vibrancy, Getty Square experiences a crime rate higher than the Yonkers average at 14.66 incidents per 1,000 residents. Additionally, the neighborhood contends with a relatively higher rate of violent crime, at 4.04 incidents per thousand residents.

4. Nodine Hill

Nodine Hill, nestled just inland of Getty Square, holds a similar population of around 13,000 individuals. But has a lower median household income of only $29,000/year. Celebrated for its diversity and attracting immigrants from various regions, including Latin America, Africa, and Asia, Nodine Hill grapples with its own set of crime challenges.

Nodine Hill records a crime rate of 15.01, while the violent crime rate is similarly elevated at 4.18 incidents per 1,000 people.

3. Ludlow

Positioned in Yonkers’ south east quadrant, Ludlow is the location of many new housing and other developments. This is the least densely-populated area on this list with only about 9,000 residents. The median household income is $28,000.

As Ludlow sits adjacent to the Bronx and blends residential and industrial areas, it contends with higher crime. With a crime rate of 15.49 incidents per 1,000 residents, it surpasses the Yonkers average by 33%. The neighborhood’s violent crime rate registers at 4.34.

2. Park Hill

Located in Yonkers’ south-central region, Park Hill is bordered by McLean Avenue, Saw Mill River Parkway, South Broadway, and Van Cortlandt Park. The 11,000 residents have a median household income of $31,000. Park Hill is characterized by its hilly landscape and historic architectural landmarks.

In terms of crime, Park Hill’s residents experience a rate 35 higher than the City’s average at 16.02 per thousand people. Violent crime rates remain elevated at 4.51 incidents per 1,000 residents.

1. Nepperhan

Situated more towards the Yonkers’ north west quadrant, Nepperhan is bordered by Nepperhan Avenue, Saw Mill River Parkway, Ashburton Avenue, and Warburton Avenue. Nepperhan stands as a densely populated neighborhood with 12,000 residents and economic challenges evidenced by the median income of only $27,000.

Nepperhan experiences a crime rate of 16.64, surpassing the Yonkers average by 37%. The neighborhood’s violent crime rate sits at 4.69 incidents per 1,000 residents.
