An Appeal from the Publisher

Our reporting serves our City. Your donation makes it possible!

Greetings!

Last week, we launched the Newsmatch matching grant program, which runs through December 31.

Our first week’s response was terrific. We received donations across the City from $10 to $200. Thank you to donors who supported local, independent coverage of the communities and issues that Yonkersites care about most. And right out of the gate, those donations were matched 2-1.

Local news matters.

2025 was an election year, and we covered the City Council race from primary to general. 2025 was a year of development. We covered the large and small developments impacting our communities, particularly the MGM Casino failure. It was a year to talk about noise, one of the most frequent complaints in the city. We covered wage inequities at the Kawasaki Yonkers plant. And it was a year of cultural stories, from art exhibits to poetry to city trees. We also continue to publish opinion stories from across the city.

We are a nonprofit, so your donations is tax-deductible. Every dollar we raise through December 31 has a 1-1 match up to $15,000 and the first $2,500 we raise will be matched 2-1. We also have a challenge to attract donations from 50 new donors. Every donation counts!

2026 Plans

We have big plans for the 2026: neighborhood profiles, environmental concerns (including flooding), the upcoming budget cycle, and of course, ongoing Yonkers politics. To do this well, we are recruiting more journalists, planning a revamp of our design as well as a major increase in our social media presence and video output, and new outreach to local students and educators.

Your contributions are always welcome. You can submit stories to [email protected]

Please be generous with your donation so that our journalistic mission can continue to grow.

With my heartfelt thanks,

Ruth Walter
