The Tunnel to Towers Foundation provided a holiday surprise to the family of Detective Sgt. Frank Gualdino.
On December 1, Gualdino was killed on Tuckahoe road when an unlicensed underage driver crashed into his vehicle. He was only a few months away from his retirement. The unidentified driver is reportedly still in critical condition at a local hospital. A memorial service for the officer was held on Dec 7th.
Sgt. Gualdino was a 24-year veteran of the Yonkers Police Department and is remembered by his wife Lisa and their two children. On Tuesday December 20th, the CEO of Tunnel to Towers, Frank Siller, announced that the mortgage of the grieving family has been paid off by the foundation.
“This holiday season, we honor those families who have sacrificed so much for all of us,”
Frank Siller, CEO of Tunnel to Towers
Tunnel to Towers has an annual, “Season of Hope” campaign where this year they have paid off mortgages for a total of nine families of fallen first responders. In total, the foundation has helped 200 families in 2022. Siller explained the group’s mission as a commitment, “To the families who are still grieving the recent loss of a loved one and to those who are enduring another year with an empty seat at the table, Tunnel to Towers is honored to celebrate your loved one’s service and ensure that you and your family can stay in your home forever.”
