In a stride towards environmental sustainability, the City of Yonkers unveiled the latest addition to their green fleet–five new electric Ford F-150 Lightning pick-up trucks.
A growing fleet
The City of Yonkers now boasts an impressive fleet of 118 electric and hybrid vehicles. These five new acquisitions align with the City’s green initiative and the Yonkers Climate Action Plan. It therefore solidifies its position as the leading municipality in Westchester County in terms of electric vehicle adoption.
These new vehicles will continue to help us navigate the future of Yonkers by reducing our carbon footprint. We want to lead the way in Westchester and commit to a greener, more sustainable Yonkers by utilizing the innovative technology available to us.
Mike Spano – Mayor of Yonkers
The Ford F-150 Lightning trucks offer an estimated range of 240 miles, enhancing their versatility for various city operations. Additionally, these electric trucks can be utilized to power tools and appliances, providing a practical solution for city services. Moreover, they can serve as backup power sources during power outages, ensuring continuity in essential services.
Commissioner of the Department of Public Works, Tom Meier, highlighted the ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. During the unveiling he said, “These five all-electric light-duty utility trucks provide another level of success towards accomplishing [the Mayor’s] goal to make Yonkers a cleaner and more sustainable City.“

This expansion of the electric fleet follows an earlier announcement regarding increased availability of electric vehicle charging stations in Yonkers. With 90 charging ports placed in city parking lots, garages, and curbside locations, the city is working towards achieving its Climate Action Plan’s goal of zero emissions by 2050, including a 100% electric fleet.
Forging a path toward a cleaner and more sustainable future, the commitment to innovative initiatives signifies a resolute step towards a greener future for the city.
