The county has extended a “boil water advisory” for 50,000 to 70,000 residents of Southwest Yonkers. The advisory was first issued Monday following a water main break on Nepperhan Avenue. The county issued the extension sometime Tuesday, and it was reported on News12 at midday. There was no announcment from the city, although a call center operator at the city Help Line confirmed Tuesday night that the advisory had been extended, stating that the city hadn’t had enough time to post the information on its website.
The county stated the advisory was issued “as a precaution to protect from potential contamination caused by ground water infiltration into water mains as a result of the reduction in water main pressure caused by the water main break.” The effected area is south of Ashburton to the New York City line, between the Hudson River and the Saw Mill Parkway. The county said residents “are strongly advised to continue to boil their water before drinking it or using it to prepare food.”
