The second annual Yonkers Pride scholarship applications are now open. Three students from Yonkers Public Schools will be awarded with a $1,000 scholarship for higher education.
The Yonkers Pride organization was founded over five years ago and supports LGBTQ+ programs within the city. Partnering with the City of Yonkers’ Mayor Mike Spano’s LGBTQ Advisory Board, the Yonkers Pride Planning Committee, and the Downtown Yonkers Business Improvement District, it organizes an annual Pride parade. Its mission statement reads:
Our mission is to produce an inclusive, secure, and fun event to promote freedom of expression, motivate activists in the on-going fight for equal rights, and to honor and celebrate the diversity of the Yonkers LGBTQ+ community, their families, and allies.
For the second year, this group is offering a college scholarship to high school students. Students currently enrolled in Yonkers Public Schools may apply for this $1,000 scholarship to highlight how they have championed the LGBTQ+ community.
