Are you looking for something to do tonight? It’s a slow week, not really summer, but not really Labor Day yet either. But there’s no excuse to do a couch potato number, because there’s way more going on here than one person could reasonably be expected to handle.
It has to do with development. Vision. Plans for the future. In two very different places, both critically important to almost anyone who lives in Yonkers: Central Avenue and Downtown. And if you want to have your say on both of those issues, you’ll require either a police motorcade or helicopter to get to both of them.
First up: The Next Chapter for Downtown Yonkers: First Local Planning Committee Meeting. This kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at the Riverfront Library. It’s called the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, an effort which recently received a large block of state funding. There’s an open call for projects, so I’ve got an idea, you’ll want to make the scene.
But starting barely a half an hour later, at 6 p.m., you can offer your two cents worth to the Reimagine Central Avenue project, which “will take a fresh look at the 2.3-mile stretch of Central Park Avenue, from Tuckahoe Road to the northern boundary of the city,” according to a city release. It’s at the Grinton I. Will Library, 1500 Central Park Ave., an 18 minute, 4.4 mille drive from downtown. It will be the first of several workshops devoted to our primary commercial corridor.
The planning meetings were planned on the same night because the downtown meeting included state representatives with limited availability. The Local Planning Committee of the downtown initiative will meet five more times, according to a spokesperson for the city.
