City of Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano has proclaimed November 12, 2022, to be Pearnel Charles Jr. Day.
Charles Jr., the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, was presented with his proclamation by City of Yonkers council member Shanae Williams.
Charles Jr. was recognized for his leadership in Jamaica and his mission to improve the lives of Jamaican people. He dedicates time, expertise, and passion to enriching their lives through cultural, social, and religious contributions.
The inscription on the proclamation reads:
“The City of Yonkers raises its voice in tribute to the Honourable Pearnel Charles Jr., an individual who has dedicated his life to public service and we express our gratitude to him for all he has done to make his country a better place for all its residents.”
Williams, a Jamaica native, presented the official framed proclamation to Charles Jr. during a town hall meeting at the Jamaican Consulate in New York. In a signed declaration of acknowledgement, City Council also recognized Charles Jr. for his leadership in multiple ministries.
The town hall was themed, “Food Security – The Jamaican perspective.” Members of the Jamaican diaspora joined the consul general to learn updated details on Jamaica’s food security plan, “Grow Smart, Eat Smart.”
On receiving the proclamation, Charles Jr. expressed his appreciation for the honor.
“I am grateful and definitely encouraged to continue to serve our people. I feel blessed and ready to do even more.”
