The man charged in the lethal stabbings of two Yonkers women was found dead in his Westchester County Jail cell on March 17. Defendant Luis Ramos, 28, had been awaiting trial for his alleged role in the deaths of Yonkersites Isabella Triano, 70, and Trisha Miller, 38. According to the Westchester Department of Corrections, there were no other parties present at time of his death. Details surrounding the discovery are limited. State and county investigations into the cause and circumstances surrounding Ramos’ death are still underway.
Ramos had been charged with killing Triano and Miller–a mother and daughter–in their Yonkers home located at 68 Shipman Avenue. Ramos allegedly broke into their home and stole numerous items including money and debit cards. He then fatally stabbed each woman. Triano was stabbed seven times and Miller 18 times.
In conversation with his child’s mother, Ramos stated that he and Miller were dating and that he went to her home because she owed him money.
Following the alleged incident, Ramos was seen on surveillance video stealing Triano’s car. He then drove the car to the nearby Empire City Casino. Video further shows that he used a portion of the $2,600 he allegedly stole from the victims’ debit cards to gamble before returning Triano’s vehicle to her home. From there, Ramos left the premises in a taxi. A taxi incidentally from the same cab company he was formerly employed.
To hasten his escape from the state, Ramos then allegedly borrowed a vehicle from a former colleague in Yonkers. He then left New York and traveled to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where the vehicle’s license plate was tracked. He was finally arrested in Salome, Arizona. Officials suspect he was planning to cross the border into Mexico.
Yonkers police were alerted to the crime when Miller’s friend noticed she wasn’t responding to text messages. Miller and Triano were discovered by police a short time later.
Ramos had been facing severe criminal charges including first- and second-degree murder, weapons possession, robbery, and burglary. A date for the trial was pending.
