Robert Chomicki, a retired Yonkers police officer who started a trash hauling business, admits guilt in years-long fraud.
In June 2022, Chomicki was charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. He was accused of sending emails to defraud the waste management company over the course of 14 months, from April 2019 to June 2020. He was initially released on a $250,000 bond and pleaded not guilty in federal court in White Plains, NY.
However, Chomicki changed his plea to guilty on April 21st, 2023 in a deal with the government. He has agreed to forfeit $640,784 in restitution for underpaying dumping fees at Waste Management Inc.’s Yonkers Transfer Station.
He is now scheduled to be sentenced on July 26 for fraud charges. The case is be presided over by U.S. District Judge Nelson S. Roman.
Robert Chomicki’s past was one of merit. He was awarded the police Medal of Honor in 1988 for his act of bravery in the line of duty. According to the Honor Board of Review citation, in 1988, Chomicki and another officer, Anthony Baiocco, responded to a call of shots fired and found a disturbed man armed with a rifle and a shotgun firing rounds in the air. The man ignored orders to drop the weapons and took aim at Baiocco. Chomicki shot and killed the man, credited with saving Baiocco’s life.
He retired as a Yonkers police officer in 2010. Two years later, he started Riverside Hauling, Inc, the company that became the foundation for his current crimes.
