Randi Weingarten To Highlight Innovative Education Model at Saunders Trades and Technical High School

On Wednesday, November 8th, Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), will visit Saunders Trades and Technical High School to shine a spotlight on its unique approach to vocational and academic instruction. As part of AFT’s yearlong “Real Solutions for Kids and Communities” campaign, Weingarten will emphasize the need to celebrate educational programs that help students recover and thrive.

The Saunders System

Saunders Trades and Technical High School stands out for its distinctive educational model. The model equips students with both job-ready skills and academic preparation for college. Students have the opportunity to major in one of ten technical, vocational, or occupational programs. They simultaneously participate in academic classes, taking Regents exams, and college prep courses.

The school’s curriculum offers a diverse range of courses such as:

  • graphic design
  • cosmetology & barbering
  • fashion design
  • automotive technology
  • heating & air conditioning
  • construction technology
  • architecture
  • biology & chemical technology
  • electronic & computer circuitry

This comprehensive approach provides students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for future careers in their chosen fields.
