Karen T. Beltran was appointed today as City Council Judge by Mayor Mike Spano. The formal swearing-in ceremony will take place at Yonkers City Hall at 11:00 a.m. on February 5th.

“I am proud to appoint as our newest City Court Judge,” said Mayor Spano.

As a public servant of the Westchester area for over 20 years, Beltran’s expertise in procedural law, family law, and litigation will be a welcome addition to the bench. Mayor Spano continued:

“Karen’s professionalism, deep knowledge and experience in litigation will prove to be a great asset to the Yonkers City Court system.”

Yonkers Chief Judge Hon. Arthur J. Doran was also enthusiastic about Beltran’s appointment, stating, “I am very excited that Karen Beltran will be joining our Bench. She brings with her a long history of civic contribution here in Yonkers, that together with her vast legal expertise will prove as an invaluable asset as a Yonkers City Court Judge.”

Beltran’s career in public service began after she received her Juris Doctor Degree from the University at Buffalo School of Law and Bachelor of Arts from Purchase College. Beltran initially served as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and as the Senior Assistant County Attorney for the County’s Family Law and Litigation Bureaus. In her most recent role, Beltran served as the Deputy Administrator for Westchester County’s Independent Office of Assigned Counsel.

Beltran voiced her gratitude for the appointment and was thankful for Mayor Spano’s support.

“I express genuine gratitude to Mayor Spano for this Yonkers City Court appointment,” she said. “I thank him for recognizing the immense responsibility and importance of judicial appointments and for his confidence in me. As a child from an immigrant family, a proud Yonkers Public Schools and graduate and as a long-time public servant, this accomplishment is truly a community effort. I pledge to uphold our community values of resilience and perseverance while on the bench. I look forward to serving the public with respect, perspective and fairness.”

Beltran replaces Judge Elena Goldberg-Velazquez on the Yonkers City Court bench and will seek a full 10-year term in November’s election.
