Newborn Baby Girl Found Abandoned in Yonkers Apartment Building

discover a newborn baby apparently abandoned for days within a apartment building.

On the evening of Tuesday February 6th, Yonkers Police officers were dispatched to an apartment building at 32 Chestnut Street. They arrived at approximately 8:30pm. They received a call regarding a newborn baby found alone in the hallway of this small, four-unit building.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the infant wrapped in a blanket presumably by a good Samaritan. Per an official statement from the YPD, “The found baby is a female that is approximately only a few days old.”

Emergecy services transported the abandoned newborn to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Police have since stated she is currently in stable condition.

Investigation Underway

A police spokesperson informed the New York Post that they returned to the area the following morning, February 7th, to continue their search for answers. During their search, officers discovered a security camera in the area. However, it has not been made clear exactly what was captured on video.

Detectives from the Special Victims Unit, Major Case Squad, Digital Forensics Unit, Yonkers Police Officers, and Crime Scene Unit are still investigating. Police said the investigation continues and anyone with information about the mother or child should contact the .
