A man faces serious charges after indictment by a grand jury for allegedly sexually abusing a student at a Harlem after-school program. Miles McNeal, 25, was arraigned on Tuesday in Supreme Court on charges including sexual conduct against a child, sexual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The accusations against McNeal stem from his role as a part-time worker at an undisclosed public school in Harlem. There, he assisted in an after-school film program. However, his tenure came to an end in November 2023.

The Manhattan Child Abuse Squad of the NYPD arrested Miles McNeal of Yonkers on February 1st. According to the complaint, McNeal stands accused of molesting an 8-year-old girl between September 8, 2022, and August 18, 2023. The alleged abuse occurred within the premises of the after-school facility located on West 112th Street.

The allegations detail a harrowing ordeal lasting 11 months. During this time, McNeal purportedly subjected the victim to repeated assaults. He also took explicit photographs of her and exposed her to pornographic images involving minors.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg condemned the alleged actions, labeling them as “despicable” and emphasized the necessity of ensuring school environments remain safe for all students.

At his arraignment, McNeal plead not guilty. The court set bail at $75,000 cash and $200,000 bond. McNeal remains at Riker’s Island pending further legal proceedings scheduled for March 4.

McNeal’s association with the school suggests potential access to more children. Therefore, law enforcement stress the importance of reporting any suspicious activities or interactions involving the accused. If a parent knows that their child had contact with McNeal, they are encouraged to call the NYPD Sex Crimes Hotline at 212-267-RAPE (7273).
