The Yonkers Police Department arrested resident Geneby Clase on April 8 in connection with a deadly hit-and-run accident earlier that morning.

A fatal fall

At just before 5 a.m. on Monday, the YPD received a report of a fallen civilian. Calls indicated that the distressed individual fell on Buena Vista Avenue between Main Street and Dock Street by the Metro North Train Station. When first responders arrived at the scene, they located an unconscious female lying on the road and attempted life-saving measures.

The woman, identified as 35-year-old Fateema Respress, had fallen in the roadway at that location. While attempting to stand up, a black SUV traveling northbound on Buena Vista Avenue struck Respress. The driver then fled the scene. Emergency services transported the victim to a local hospital. She unfortunately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

Arrested and arraigned

Detectives from the Major Case Squad, Crime Scene Unit, Digital Forensics Unit, and Accident Investigators from the Traffic Division led the investigation into this fatal accident.

Authorities identified the driver of the SUV as 36-year-old Geneby Clase of Yonkers. He was taken into custody after police located his vehicle later the same day. Clase is charged with Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident resulting in Death, a D-Felony in the State of New York.
